Project PAGLAUM

NewGenRocks!: Project PAGLAUM is an intitiative to spearhead Rehabilitation and Reconstruction efforts for the areas affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is Project PAGLAUM?

PAGLAUM is the Bisayan word for Hope. Project PAGLAUM is an initiative established by NEWGENRocks! intended to raise funds and donations for the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for the victims and provinces affected by the super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). The program seeks to provide hope among those affected by the typhoon in order to recover from the calamity through sustainable efforts and long-term development.

2. What is NEWGENRocks!?

NewGenRocks is an advocacy of PUBLiCUS Asia, Inc. since 2006 on engaging the Filipino youth to be productive citizens. We have done nationwide activities on voters’ education, clean and green, anti-drug campaign, volunteerism and entrepreneurship.

3. Why Rehabilitation?

In the aftermath of the Yolanda disaster, it is urgent to enable basic services to resume functioning, assist victims’ self-help efforts to repair physical damage and community facilities, revive economic activities and provide support for the psychological and social well being of the survivors. It focuses on enabling the affected population to resume more-or-less normal (pre-disaster) patterns of life. It may be considered as a transitional phase between immediate relief and more major, long-term development.

Currently, there are a lot of groups focusing on relief operations on areas affected by the Typhoon. However, nobody is talking about how to assist these people to get back on their feet and move on.

4. How can I help?

You can send your donations through our DONATION PAGE

5. Can I monitor where my money is spent?

YES. NewGenRocks will post updates on its Facebook Page from time to time regarding the status of the recovery and reconstruction efforts of Project PAGLAUM and our partner groups on the ground.

Donors will also have the freedom to choose where he/she wants his/her money to be spent. Five areas were identified based on the provinces most affected by the Typhoon Yolanda. (1) Southern part of Samar Island (Guian, Basey); (2) Leyte (Tacloban, Ormoc, Dulag, Tanauan, Tolosa); (3) Northern Cebu and Negros Occidental (Bantayan, DaangBantayan, Cadiz); (4) Northern Iloilo and Capiz (Estancia, Roxas City); and, (5) Northern Palawan (Coron).

Note: Specific projects are still being finalized based on reports from the ground.

6. Who are your partner groups?

Our point person on the ground for Eastern Leyte (Tacloban and Samar) is Jude Acidre; for Capiz, we are linking up with Gina Arnaldo-Policarpio and Coron is Rina Rosales tentatively. We are setting up conduits for private fund donations via Cecilla Tan-Mercado, a native of Leyte, based in Montreal, Canada and Rhodora Roy-Raterta, based in New York. We are also doing fundraising locally via former clients. If there are other volunteers to serve as conduits, please let us know.
